Newham will offer accessible voting tool at many polling stations for 7 May elections
Blind and partially sighted residents in Newham will be able to use the McGonagle Reader at many polling stations in the 7 May local elections.
Newham says it will introduce the McGonagle Reader at many polling stations for the 7 May local elections for councillors and Mayor of Newham.
The tool is designed to help blind and partially sighted residents vote in secret, using audio prompts and a physical guide to help mark the ballot paper without assistance.
According to the council, this will be the first time the system has been used in Newham.
If you are blind or partially sighted and planning to vote on 7 May, Newham says you can register to try the McGonagle Reader at Newham.gov.uk/accessiblevoting.
If this would make voting easier for you or someone you know, it is worth checking before polling day.
