The short version

East Village Hub is a place for neighbours to share honest, useful local knowledge. Strong opinions are welcome — personal attacks, illegal content, and abuse are not. If you see something that breaks these rules, use the Report button and we'll review it.

These guidelines apply to everything residents post on EVH — comments, community tracker submissions, business edits, recommendations, and any future community spaces (marketplace, lost & found, reviews, polls). They sit alongside our Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.

What we welcome

  • Honest first-hand experiences of living in East Village.
  • Strong opinions and fair criticism — of businesses, the council, landlords, developers, and services.
  • Questions, tips, recommendations, and neighbourly help.
  • Disagreement, as long as it stays about the argument and not the person.

What's not allowed

Don't post content that is illegal, or that we consider harmful to the community. This includes:

  • Illegal content — anything that breaks UK law, including content that encourages or assists a criminal offence.
  • Child sexual abuse or exploitation — zero tolerance. This is reported to the authorities.
  • Terrorism or violent extremism — content that promotes, supports, or glorifies terrorism.
  • Threats and violence — threats to kill or seriously harm, or incitement to violence against any person or group.
  • Harassment, bullying, and stalking — targeting or intimidating an individual, pile-ons, or repeated unwanted contact.
  • Hate speech — attacks or slurs based on race, religion, ethnicity, nationality, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, disability, or age.
  • Sexual content — explicit material or sexual solicitation.
  • Encouraging suicide or self-harm.
  • Private information (doxxing) — sharing someone's home address, phone number, workplace, or other personal details without consent.
  • Fraud and scams — deceptive schemes, fake offers, or attempts to defraud residents.
  • Spam — advertising, repetitive posting, or off-topic promotion.
  • Impersonation — pretending to be another resident, a public figure, or an official body.
  • Deliberately false reports — submitting fake or misleading data to the community trackers.

Reporting content

Every piece of resident-posted content has a Report option. Anyone can use it — you don't need an account, and you don't need to be the person affected. Choose the reason that best fits and add any detail that helps us understand the problem. Reports are private; the person you're reporting isn't told who reported them.

In an emergency, call 999

If someone is in immediate danger, or a crime is in progress, contact the police on 999 (or 101 for non-emergencies). Reporting content to EVH is not a substitute for contacting the emergency services.

How we handle reports and takedowns

We review reports and take one of the following actions on the content:

  • Leave it up — if it doesn't break these guidelines, we dismiss the report and the content stays.
  • Hide it — a reversible takedown while we look into it, or for borderline cases.
  • Remove it — the content is taken off the site. We keep an internal record of the removal for our audit trail.

We prioritise reports of illegal content and content that risks someone's safety, and aim to act on those quickly. We may also block a resident's account from posting, or remove the account entirely, for serious or repeated breaches. Where we're legally required to, we'll report illegal content and cooperate with the police and other authorities.

New comments are also checked by automated moderation before they appear, so some content is caught before anyone needs to report it.

Appeals

If your content was removed or your account was blocked and you think we got it wrong, email hello@eastvillagehub.co.uk and we'll take another look. Please include enough detail for us to find the content in question.

Changes

We may update these guidelines as the community grows and as our legal obligations evolve. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision.
