This Week in E20: 7–13 September

A quiet start, a busy Friday, and a weekend that closes out the biggest thing on the Park all summer. Pizza Pilgrims opens at Westfield today, the Black Arsenal exhibition has its last few days, and on Friday the Kerfuffle Klub returns to Victory Park - on the same evening West Ham are at home.

Monday 7 September

Pizza Pilgrims opens at Westfield

Pizza Pilgrims opens its Westfield Stratford site today, on The Balcony. Neapolitan pizza, no booking, and a useful addition to the run of places that stay open past the shops.

Tuesday 8 September

Abstract Painting at Barge East - final session

The last of the Abstract Painting evenings on the barge. Materials provided, no experience needed, and a drink in hand throughout. Book on Eventbrite before you turn up.

Wednesday 9 September

Black Arsenal Exhibition - last day

Final day for the Black Arsenal Exhibition at UCL East Marshgate, which traces the communities and cultural movements behind Arsenal FC's Black British identity. Developed with Dr Clive Nwonka's research and presented alongside Arsenal FC and Adidas. Free, walk in.

Thursday 10 September

upperground

The weekly DJ residency continues at V&A East, with one guest DJ taking an extended set across genres, generations and geographies in the museum space. Free, no ticket, walk in from 6.30pm. Runs every Thursday to 24 September.

Friday 11 September

Kerfuffle Klub

Phones down, lace up. The Kerfuffle Klub is back in Victory Park for one more evening of the games you forgot you missed, played with people who live down the road from you. No skill required and no team to join - turn up in something you can move in and find the group on the grass.

West Ham v Wrexham

Friday night football at the London Stadium, with West Ham hosting Wrexham. An 8pm kick off means closures running late into the evening, and the Park will be filling up from around the time the Kerfuffle Klub starts. If you are doing both, walk between them and leave the car where it is.

Saturday 12 September

Black to the Future

The closing weekend of The Music is Black Festival, and the biggest free thing on the Park this month. Twelve hours of genre-bending live music and DJs across the East Bank waterfront stages and Sadler's Wells East, running from midday to midnight. No ticket needed.

Skate Gals & Pals

The weekly inclusive session for BPOC and LGBTQ+ skaters runs on Saturday morning, well before the East Bank crowds arrive. Boards, pads and helmets provided. Capped at 15 and it books up, so register in advance. Runs every Saturday to 26 September.

Sunday 13 September

Black to the Future, day two

A shorter, gentler second day on East Bank to close the festival out, midday to 6pm. Free, and the easiest walk-in of the weekend.

The Good Growth Hub's free sessions connecting young east Londoners to the creative music industry continue: panels with artists and producers, peer networking and hands-on career guidance. Open to young people looking to break into creative industries.

The Music Is Black: A British Story

V&A East's flagship free exhibition — a multi-sensory journey through 125 years of Black British music — continues throughout the week and well beyond it.

Sketch and Sip at Barge East

Drawing on the barge with a drink, in its final fortnight. Ticketed, and worth booking ahead now the run is nearly over.

Looking ahead

With Black to the Future done, the Park's summer programme is effectively over and attention shifts to autumn. Sketch and Sip at Barge East finishes on 15 September, the Skate Gals & Pals run ends on 26 September, and upperground and Industry Insights both close out on 24 September at East Bank and V&A East.
