Want a game? Where adults can play football near East Village

A neighbour asked whether there's any adult football to join around here. There's more than you might think, and the nearest game is inside the Village.

Turn up and play

The pitch at Chobham Academy (E20 1BD) hosts pay-per-game sessions every day of the week on this week's listings, booked through the Footy Addicts app or website. Different organisers run them, mostly 8-a-side and 6-a-side, in the evenings and through the day on Saturdays. A place costs between £6 and £8.50 on the listings this week, and the popular slots go to a waiting list, so book early.

Across the Park, Bobby Moore Academy on Marshgate Lane (E20 2AA) has bigger 10-a-side games on the same app, from £8 to £15 a place.

Women and non-binary players

Clapton Community FC's Open Access session runs on Saturdays from 10am to 12 noon at the Gainsborough pitches on East Bay Lane, opposite Here East. The club says it's open to women and non-binary people of all ages and abilities, there's no cost and donations are welcome. Its page isn't dated, so email openaccess@claptoncfc.co.uk before your first Saturday.

The West Ham United Foundation also runs a women's session, beginners welcome, on Thursdays from 7.30pm to 8.30pm, at The Foundry in Beckton. The first two or three sessions are free, then it's £10 a month.

Walking football

The West Ham United Foundation runs a men's session at the Memorial Ground, Ronald Avenue, Stratford, on Mondays from 10am to 11am, for adults 18 and over. It costs £10 a month, which also gets you into the Foundation's other walking football sessions.

Join a club or a league

Grassroots football is still played on Hackney Marshes, which its operator Better calls "the spiritual home to grass roots football". Fan-owned Clapton Community FC fields men's, women's and over-35s sides and lists how to get involved on its website.

If you're LGBTQ+, look at the London Unity League, which describes its football as LGBTQIA+ sport. East End Phoenix plays in its Division 1 this season.

Book a pitch for your own game

• Mabley Green, Hackney: two floodlit 3G pitches. At peak times a full pitch is £147.60 and a half pitch £74.90 for adults, with changing rooms included.
• Hackney Marshes: over 80 grass pitches for hire, block bookings or pay as you play.
