V&A East presents a landmark evening for east London and grime music: Who Invented Grime? — a listening party and live conversation brought together by The Grime Journalist, Ruff Sqwad Arts Foundation, and V&A East. The event is part of Making Sound, V&A East's youth music programme running alongside The Music is Black exhibition.
The evening marks the first public listening of the debut album Who Invented Grime? — a record that traces the genre's roots, its architects, and the communities that shaped it. After the listening, the night opens into a live conversation and Q&A featuring grime artists, producers, and guests drawn from across the genre's history.
This is a rare opportunity to hear the story of grime told by the people who lived it — in the heart of east London, the place where the music was born. Expect an atmosphere that is celebratory, candid, and deeply rooted in the culture.
